Previously, the Centre used a mix of gas heaters and electric heating, which were old and insufficient to heat the rooms adequately. However, following an energy efficiency assessment and with the help of part-funding, they replaced the outdated system with new central heating.

Because of the age of the building, the hall commissioned an energy assessment to explore ways to reduce energy bills, increase comfort, and cut carbon emissions. The assessment suggested several improvements that could lead to a significant 82% drop in carbon emissions per year.

Since its opening in 2014 Dean Court Community Centre has been at the heart of the local community. The motivation for getting an energy assessment carried out stemmed from the discomfort caused by cold temperatures during events. Despite using plug-in heaters, the space remained chilly. They recognised the need for change to better serve their community.

The action report showed that these recommendations would bring about significant improvements, with a predicted 7,345 kWh of energy saved every year – representing 1.72 tonnes of CO2 emissions, and £1,463 worth of energy bills.
