The Rug Shed switches to LED lighting for a brighter future
The Rug Shed, known for its unique handmade rugs sourced from around the world, operates from a charming showroom in Henley-on-Thames. Housed in a historic building dating back to the 1900s, the showroom boasts floor-to-ceiling windows, inviting natural light to illuminate the space, along with two large skylights overhead.
More efficient lighting
Following a comprehensive energy assessment, the resulting action report recommended that the showroom upgrade its lighting to LED fixtures, particularly in the front area lit by a mix of low voltage halogens and other non-LED lights.
Recognising the potential for lower electricity bills and improved lighting quality, The Rug Shed decided to replace all existing lights with LED alternatives. This included replacing 50 lights in the front retail area with adjustable LED fixtures, allowing for focused illumination of their products. Additionally, some downlights were installed to further increase the ambiance.
The decision to switch to LED lighting was significant, as these lights consume up to 80% less electricity and last much longer compared to fluorescent and halogen lights. With the showroom’s front window lights constantly on, the transition to LED not only helps reduce energy consumption but also enhances the display of their products.
